He is the first priest of the Archdiocese to be elevated to the Episcopate.
He was born in Thrissur, Kerala on 7 February 1958. After completing his High School
studies in Tyagarajar H.S. Alagappanagar in Thirssur, he joined St. Lawrence Minor
Seminary, Agra (U.P.) in the year 1973. He graduated in Philosophy and Theology
from St. Joseph’s Regional Seminary, Allahabad in U.P. He was ordained a priest
of the Archdiocese of Agra on May 11, 1983. He served in the mission stations of
Agra in various capacities as Parish Priest, Rector of the Minor Seminary,
Principal, Director of the diocesan Pastoral Centre and also as the Rector of
the Regional Philosophate. He also obtained a Ph.D from Angelicum University,
Rome. Owing to his exemplary life and robust spirituality, he was elected to be
the bishop of Varanasi and was ordained to the episcopate on 30th April
2007.
After completing six years as the shepherd of Varanasi diocese, he was transferred to
the diocese of Allahabad as its new shepherd and was installed there on 3rd Dec. 2013.
Bishop Raphy was once again transferred to be the Archbishop of his home diocese,
Agra. He was installed as the Archbishop of Agra on 7th January 2021.
Most Rev. Joseph Thykattil was born on 14 February 1952. Hailing from Thirssur District
of Kerala, he joined the Agra Archdiocesan minor seminary with the intention of becoming
a priest and was ordained a Priest for the Archdiocese on 25 April 1988. He adorned many
posts in various mission stations of the Archdiocese. He excelled in imparting the love
of Jesus as the Rector of the diocesan minor seminary and the Parish Priest of
innumerable parishes in the diocese.
It was a day of immense joy for the entire Archdiocese of Agra when Rev. Fr. Joe Thykattil was elected to
be the bishop of Gwalior by His Holiness Pope Francis. His Episcopal Consecration and Installation as the
Bishop of Gwalior took place on Sunday, the 4th August 2019 in the presence of numerous bishops, priests,
religious and lay faithful. The Archdiocese of Agra takes pride in CONGRATULATING Most Rev. Joe Thykattil
and pray that he lives upto the expectation of an ideal shepherd after the heart of Jesus.
Bishop Bhaskar was born on 11 April 1966 in the Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. After
completing his high school studies in his home town, he joined St. Lawrence Minor
Seminary, Agra. He graduated in Philosophy and Theology from St. Joseph’s Regional
Seminary, Allahabad in U.P. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Agra
on April 21, 1993. He served in the mission stations of Agra in various capacities
as the Secretary to the Archbishop, Parish Priest, Principal, Financial
Administrator,Chancellor and the Deputy Secretary to the Agra Regional Bishops’
Council as well. His hardworking nature and dedication to the mission was
edifying to one and all. On 13th January 2024 he was elected to be the bishop
of Meerut and was ordained and installed as the Bishop of Meerut on 3rd March
2024.

of Meerut.
